The Global Ranger Challenge - Application Procedure, Eligibility Requirements and Rules for Malaysia

1. Application Procedure NO PURCHASE IS NECESSARY TO ENTER OR BE SELECTED TO PARTICIPATE. There are two ways to apply: (a) Applicants can submit an application on their behalf or (b) Applicants can be nominated to participate by another party. All Applicants will be asked to submit one of the following items or a combination of the following: Video ("Video"), short essay (“essay’) with or without a photo(s) explaining: why they should be selected to participate in Ford Motor Company's The Malaysia Ranger Challenge and explaining what Challenge they would like to see the Ranger take on which can relate to a task performed on their job, in their community or in and around their town. ("Program"). Applicants must submit their video, essay and/or pictures and complete the application form via www.fordrangerchallenge.com.my Application must be received by 15th April 2012 ("Close Date"). 2. Eligibility Requirements and Rules
2.1 Employees, officers, directors, dealers and agents of Sime Darby Auto Connexion Sdn. Bhd. ("SDAC") and representatives, any other advertising, promotion, and fulfillment agencies ("Program Team") and the immediate family or members of their same households (whether related or not) of such employees are not eligible to apply or participate in the Program. Persons applying for the Program are hereinafter referred to as "Applicant." Persons who may be contacted to be considered to participate in the Program are hereinafter referred to as "Finalist." Persons who are ultimately selected to participate in the Program are hereinafter referred to as "Participant." The organizer is SDAC, whose principal address is, Lot 5, Level 1, Jalan 205, Petaling Jaya 40650, Selangor, Malaysia.

2.2 Applicants must be at least 21 years old, possess a valid Malaysian driver's license and be a citizen of Malaysia.

2.3 Applicants must complete and submit an application form and one of the following: (a) a video, no longer than 2 minutes in length or, (b) an essay with or without photos up to 3-4 photos. Essay is not be any longer than 2 pages, double spaced on an 8 1/2 x 11'' paper, font sized between 10-12 points, up to 1,000 characters, explaining why Applicant should be considered for the Program, and how Applicant is uniquely qualified to take on their Challenge and to participate in follow-up activities before. By submitting an application form and video or essay with or without photo(s). Applicant grants SDAC a non-exclusive worldwide, royalty-free license to use, copy, display publically, distribute, modify and alter any materials, including without limitation video/essay/photo(s) material, submitted in connection with the application or the Program (to the extent not assigned to SDAC hereunder), with the right to sublicense and assign the foregoing rights. Applicant hereby represents that they own all rights to materials, including without limitation video/essay/photo(s) material, submitted in connection with the application or the Program.

2.4 Applicants warrants and represents that in each of their applications with their corresponding video/essay/photo requirements:

  • (a) Applicant is the sole owner and author;
  • (b) Applicant has the right to make the video, essay, photo(s) available to SDAC, as contemplated by these rules;
  • (c) each person depicted in the video/photo has granted permission to be portrayed as shown;
  • (d) video/essay/photo(s) does not contain personally identifiable information about Applicant or any other person(s) without their consent but with the exception of their name;
  • (e) video/essay/photo(s) does not contain any infringing, threatening, false, misleading, abusive, harassing, libelous, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, nudity, scandalous, inflammatory, blasphemic, pornographic, profane, or illegal content;
  • (f) video/essay/photo(s) does not infringe upon the copyrights, trademarks, contract rights, or any other intellectual property rights of any third person or entity, or violate any person's rights of privacy or publicity, and video/essay/photo(s) does not include trademarks owned by third parties; copyrighted materials owned by third parties; names, likenesses, voices or other characteristics identifying celebrities or other public figures, living or dead.


2.5 If selected to participate, in a time frame to be determined by the Program Team but not less than 10 working days after selection notification, Applicant must complete, sign, and return a finalist agreement, release and waiver agreement, and additional Program documents required by Program Team, before being permitted to participate in the Program. Additional required documents may include, but will not necessarily be limited to, disclosure and authorization for relevant background reports, authorization for release of records and information and confidentiality agreement (all of which will be furnished to Applicant). As part of the release and waiver agreement required of Applicant, each Applicant must agree to, among other things, assume the risk of any and all injury, illness, death, damage, loss, or harm to the Applicant and/or Applicant's property, howsoever caused, resulting from or arising out of the selection of participants, Applicant's participation in the Program as a Participant or otherwise, and/or the production and/or exploitation of the Program. By agreeing to the terms of the confidentiality agreement, each Applicant will be required to, among other things, treat all information and material received or acquired in connection with Applicant's participation in the participant selection process and Program (if selected as a Participant), as strictly confidential. In connection with the disclosure and authorization for background reports and authorization for release of records and information, all Applicants must authorize the Program Team to conduct such full and complete background checks of the Applicant as the Program Team, in their sole discretion, deems necessary or appropriate. Applicants will be required to cooperate fully with the Program Team in connection with such background investigations.

2.6 Applicant must disclose if Applicant has ever been charged with a crime, other than minor traffic or parking violations. Program Team reserves the right to disqualify any Applicant based on such disclosures or if Applicant enters or participates in the Program, or tries to do so, by any means contrary to the Application Rules or which would be unfair to other entrants.

2.7 Applicant must agree to abide by the user-generated content procedures and headquarters reporting responsibilities associated with the Program with respect to sharing experiences with the vehicle. Program Team reserves the right in their discretion to disqualify any Applicant/Participant at any time based on lack of fulfillment of these obligations or other lack of cooperation.

2.8 Program Team reserves the right to contact Applicants to ask additional questions and/or conduct phone interviews to gather additional information about Applicants. Such phone interviews are not are at Program Team's sole discretion to assist in gathering information for Participant selection.

2.9 Program Team is not responsible for applications not received. Due to the high volume of anticipated applications, Program Team will not be able to answer any questions about the receipt or status of any application. Program Team assumes no responsibility and is not liable for any video/essay/photo misuse. Program Team assumes no responsibility for any incorrect, inaccurate or incomplete information, whether caused by website users or by any of the equipment or programming associated with or utilized in the Program, and Program Team assumes no responsibility for technical, hardware or software failure of any kind, for lost network connections, garbled computer transmissions, other problems or technical malfunctions with regard to the competition. Program Team assumes no responsibility for any error, omission, corruption, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, communications line failure, theft or destruction or unauthorized access to or alteration of applications. Program Team is not responsible for any problems or technical malfunction of any telephone network or lines, computer on-line systems, servers, computer equipment, software, failure of any e-mail addressed to Program Team on account of technical problems, human error or traffic congestion on the internet or any website, or any combination thereof, including any injury or damage to Applicant's or any other person's computer related to or resulting from participation or downloading any materials in the Program. If for any reason an application cannot be viewed or is not capable of running as planned, including infection by computer viruses, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud or technical failures, Program Team assumes no responsibility.

2.10 If an Applicant is selected to proceed to the interview round, the dates and times of the finalist interviews will be some time from video/essay/photo/application submission through 15th April 2012. This date may be extended by Program Team in its sole discretion.

2.11 Program Team reserves the right to cancel, terminate, modify these rules or administration of or suspend this Program in whole or in part without prior notice with no obligation or liability, including if for any reason the Program is not capable of running as planned, whether due to technical failure, or computer virus, tampering, fraud, or corruption of security or proper administration of the Program or other causes beyond the control of the Program Team.

2.12 By submitting an application, each Applicant agrees to release, discharge and hold harmless Program Team from all claims and damages arising out of or in connection with participation in the application process or the Program itself, and to have Applicant's name, voice and likeness used at Program Team's discretion as part of the Program, or as part of promotions arising out of or in connection with the Program, in any and all media now known or hereafter devised as further set forth in the release and waiver at this end of the application.

3. Selection Process
3.1 Selection of Finalist Process:
Submissions will be viewed as they are received and judged based on but not limited to creativity, quality of content, challenge submitted, number of thumbs up/thumbs down the video/essay/photo(s)has generated and compliance with rules. The Program Team will further investigate Applicant's social media presence for both quality of content creation and distribution capability.

3.2 Selection of Participant Process:
Each finalist will participate in an interview process and Participant selection will be based on, but not limited to, potential Participant creativity, quality of content, social vibrancy, compliance with rules, ability and willingness to travel and general acceptance to participate in follow-up Program activities as shown in the application and video/essay/photo(s). Participant selection will be made by a panel selected by SDAC. Participant selection will be based on above criteria at panel's discretion. Five (5) Participants will be chosen from all applications received from Malaysia. Chances of being selected to participate depend on the number of applications received and the ability to meet the selection criteria above. SDAC's panel's decision is final. Selected Participants will be contacted by email and may also be contacted by phone if Applicant cannot be reached via email. A list of the Participants will be available at www.fordrangerchallenge.com.my on 1st May 2012. If a selected Participant cannot be contacted within 48 hours hours of selection or is not able to adhere to Program dates or does not meet all of the conditions, alternate Participant(s) will be selected and notified. Under no circumstances, may a Participant transfer their participation to another person.

3.3 Incomplete and/or incomprehensible entries will be immediately deemed invalid.

3.4 Program Follow-up activities:
Participants will be filmed taking on their challenge in the Ford Ranger by a film crew and will be required to allow crew to shoot them including but not limited to their job, in their local community, using the vehicle in tough situations. At the sole discretion of the Program Team, Participants may be provided a vehicle loan, insurance and fuel to aid in the challenge. Specific requirements will be outlined in either a phone interview or selection/validation/confirmation interview.

4. Compensation
Participant in the Program will not be entitled to any compensation or employee benefits of any kind from any company, and agrees to refrain from seeking same. There will be no cash compensation alternative for any Participant.

5. Privacy
Information collected in connection with the Program will be used in accordance with these Rules and SDAC's Privacy Policy & Disclaimer at www.ford.net.my. By submitting personally identifiable information in connection with your application, you are agreeing to the Sime SDAC's Privacy Policy & Disclaimer at www.ford.net.my. You further agree that you will not submit a video/essay/photo(s) containing the images or voices of any other person unless you have received prior consent from that person to such submission and his/her consent to use of the video/essay/photo(s) in connection with the Program.

6. Prizes
Five (5) finalists will be selected to participate in the Program follow-up activities as referred to in paragraph 3.4 above in order to be in the running to be picked/selected to be the Grand Prize Winner. The Grand Prize Winner will be selected based on total number of thumbs up generated during the winner selection phase and the final decision on who the Grand Prize Winner shall lie with SDAC's panel of judges, such decision shall be final and not subject to any further questions/disputes. Grand Prize winner will receive a 2012 Ford Ranger XLT 2.2L Manual Transmission with an approximate retail value of RM100,000 plus The Malaysia Ranger Challenge merchandise. Grand Prize Winner will be responsible for registration of the vehicle, local tax on vehicle, income tax on the value of the vehicle, insurance and maintenance of the vehicle. First runner up will receive RM9,888 in cash and a RM10,000 voucher to purchase the All-New Ford Ranger plus Global Ranger Challenge merchandise. Second runner up will receive RM3,888 in cash and a RM5,000 voucher to purchase the All-New Ford Ranger plus Global Ranger Challenge merchandise.

7. Acknowledgement of Applicant
Applicant hereby irrevocably and unconditionally acknowledges and agrees that:

  • (1) Applicant has read, and meets and agrees to be bound by, the above application procedures, eligibility requirements and rules;
    (2) all information submitted in either the video/essay/photo(s) and/or application is honest and accurate;
    (3) if any of the above information is found to be false, this will be grounds for dismissal from the selection process, and/or from the Program, if selected;
    (4) even if Applicant meets the eligibility requirements, Applicant understands there are no obligations to interview Applicant, and/or select Applicant as a Participant;
    (5) Program Team reserves the right to cancel, terminate, modify these rules or administration of or suspend this event in whole or in part without prior notice with no obligation or liability, including if for any reason the event is not capable of running as planned, whether due to technical failure, or computer virus, tampering, fraud, or corruption of security or proper administration of the event or other causes beyond the control of the Program Team.
    (6) all decisions by SDAC or SDAC's panel of judges concerning selection of the Participants and the Grand Prize Winner is final and not subject to challenge or appeal.

8. Applicant Consent
By submitting this application, Applicant hereby consents to the recording, use and reuse by Program Team and any of their respective licensees, assigns, parents, subsidiaries, divisions, business units, or affiliated entities and each of their respective employees, agents, officers and directors (collectively "Releasees") of Applicant's voice, actions, likeness, name, appearance and biographical material (collectively "Likeness") in any and all media now known or hereafter devised, worldwide, in perpetuity, in or in connection with the Program. Applicant agrees that Releasees may use all or any part of Applicant's Likeness, and may alter or modify it, regardless of whether or not recognizable. Applicant further agrees that Releasees may use applicant's Likeness, and Applicant hereby assigns and agrees to assign to SDAC and/or Ford Motor Company the content developed and generated by the Program. Without prejudice to the foregoing, the Releasees may use the content developed and generated by the Program in connection with any promotion, publicity, marketing or advertisement arising out of or in connection with the Program in any manner whatsoever. Applicant releases Releasees from any and all liability arising out of its use of Applicant's Likeness and/or the Video/essay/photo(s). Applicant hereby acknowledges and affirms that all actions and statements made by Applicant are Applicant's own, made of Applicant's own freewill, and are truthful to the best of Applicant's knowledge. Applicant agrees not to make any claim against Releasees as a result of the use of Applicant's Likeness and/or Video/essay/photo(s) (including, without limitation, any claim that such use invades any right or privacy and/or publicity).

I, agree to comply, observe and fulfill all the aforesaid procedures, requirements and rules governing this Challenge and/or Program.
